With the passage of the Superfund Amendments and
Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA), Congress directed the Federal Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) to promulgate health and safety regulations related to
hazardous waste activities.
The regulations issued by OSHA (29 CFR 1910.120) are designed to
protect the safety and health of employees performing various hazardous waste activities
and includes specific training requirements. They specify 40 hours of initial training,
eight additional hours of specialized training for on-site management and supervisors, and
eight hours of annual update training. This course is designed to satisfy the annual
refresher training requirement as specified in 29 CFR 1910.120.
